As a passionate and studious intellectual, Ke Qi-hua devoted himself to education and the creation of literary works. However, for political reasons, he was wrongfully imprisoned for 17 years. After his release, he threw himself into political movements and cultural promotion, both witnessing and playing a partin another wave of change in Taiwan’s society.
In order to commemorate the late Ke’s contribution to Taiwan, his old residence is now a space for exhibition. Some furnishings have been kept in the house, along with letters and photos, to reflect the way the Ke family used to live. Centered on Ke’s experience, the exhibition uses interactive installations to shed light on the background of the White Terror and human rights movements in Kaohsiung as well as the progress of democracy in Taiwan, all with the aim of honoring this English grammarian, author, political victim, and pioneer of Taiwan’s democratic movement.
